Selkirk FD recently took delivery of a new Sutphen Rescue/Air Support Truck, and will be identified as M(erv) 425. The truck was built by Sutphen, via the Vander Molen Fire Apparatus Sales and Service group. The new M425 replaces the old 1998 M425 Air Support Truck. The old truck was not originally designed to be an Air Support Truck. It was re-purposed as an Air Support Truck when it was determined that there was a need for that type of vehicle. Due to the original truck not being originally designed to be an Air Support vehicle the air fill unit was susceptible to freezing in cold temperatures, as well as other issues. This new truck will not have of the same problems the old truck had. This new truck, like the old truck, will not only service the entire Town of Bethlehem, but also surrounding communities. It’s capabilities, to fill SCBA, and other types of air bottles, to the capacity it can, on any type of emergency scene, makes this vehicle a very valuable asset.
The truck is a Ford 550 with a Bauer diesel driven air compressor and cascade system.
