On August 2nd, at 3:24AM, Selkirk FD was dispatched to a confirmed working structure fire at 42 Manor Drive, Glenmont, located in the Elsmere Fire District. Selkirk FD was dispatched to assist the Elsmere FD with the call, as part of the mutual aid agreement between the two departments. Firefighters from both departments stretched lines into the house, and proceeded into the basement where the majority of the smoke was coming from. It appeared the fire had put itself out, for the most part, prior to entry being made.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical. There were severe thunderstorms in the area prior to the call going out. It is believed that the line feeding electricity to the house was struck by lightening, and the surge went into the box in the basement. Some minor overhaul and ventilation took place. All occupants had already vacated the home and were safe.
Delmar FD, Slingerlands FD, and North Bethlehem FD were also on-scene.
