On Sunday August 7th, at 2:33PM, Selkirk FD was dispatched to the CSX Selkirk Rail Yard, to assist the police department with what was reported initially as a suspicious pipe attached/wired, to a tank car in the yard. Selkirk units were staged on the outer perimeter of the yard while the police investigated the situation. State police, and other agencies were also dispatched. After a little over an hour all Selkirk FD units were cleared of the scene as the “pipe” turned out to just be a document container, attached to the car, that is used to hold shipping papers for the cars. It was a different type of device, then what is generally used, which caused the CSX personnel to be concerned.
